MADISON - Beth Van Den Langenberg, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on November 1, 2024, in Madison, Wisconsin. Born on November 20, 1961, Beth lived a life full of compassion, service, and love, touching countless lives with her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to those around her.


After earning her certification as a nurse practitioner, Beth devoted over 30 years to pediatric diabetes care. Known for her pioneering work in diabetes technology, Beth was a beloved figure at the University of Wisconsin Health, where she became a leader and mentor. Her empathy and innovative approach impacted patients and colleagues alike, and her advocacy for children’s health will be remembered as part of her lasting legacy.


Beth’s passions extended beyond her professional life. She found joy in gardening, where she nurtured plants and flowers with the same love she showed her family and friends. Her home garden blossomed each spring and summer, a living testament to her care and creativity. Summers were also a time for community as a member of the Ridgewood Swimming Pool, where she delighted in coordinating Sunday brunches, a beloved tradition that brought friends and neighbors together.


She is survived by her husband, Bill; her children, Leah (Martise) and Nate (Stella); and her grandchildren, Jamila and Zayden Van Stephen, who brought her boundless joy and pride. Beth also leaves behind her mother, Joyce Meier (Janssen); her siblings, Ellen (Larry) Spruell, Margaret (Richard) Andree, Pete (Joann) Pfeffer, and Andy (RaChelle) Pfeffer, and their families. Her warmth, guidance, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.


Beth’s kindness, grace, and devotion will forever be cherished by those whose lives she touched. Her family is comforted knowing her legacy lives on in their hearts and in the lives of the many she helped and inspired.


A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to support pediatric diabetes care through the University of Wisconsin. To Beth’s family, I am so sorry for your loss. Beth was both a mentor and a friend. Though we didn’t work for the same specialty at AFCH, we had many of the same patients. Beth was fun and full of spunk. We often talked about our gardens. I think of Beth when my irises bloom, especially the white and purple variegated ones which she recommended. We laughed about Randi Rhodes and her silly 2 pm song spotlight. I think about Beth when my yard is fertilized as she laughingly told me she fertilized her lawn to prevent any runoff. I’m sad I hadn’t seen Beth for some years but I will try to toast her memory with a gin and tonic. RIP my dear friend ❤️

To Beth’s family…as a mom of a type 1 diabetic, our paths crossed. Her care and compassion to young patients (& their parents) was a true gift. Doctors could take a lesson from her demeanor. She clearly lived, loved & served well. Our condolences to you all. 💙

Beth and I were both pediatric nurses and Pediatric Nurse Practitioners together at UW AFCH Children's Hospital. She was always an inspiration to me and was the one person that actually convinced me to go on for my nurse practitioner degree. I was on the fence so long and she gave me so much positive encouragement. As nurse practitioners we always referred patients to each other and I always knew my patients would be in the best hands when I referred them to her. She was always such a joy to talk to as a co-worker and friend. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. She made a huge difference in her short time on earth in the lives of so many patients and families and in my life as well. Wishing you all healing and the fondest of memories. Ann Dodge

Beth was a wonderful neighbor and friend. She shared her joy of gardening with all of us as she built beautiful rain gardens over the past years. She was always willing to stop her work to talk with people who were walking by. We will miss her gentle and kind presence. We hope the family will find comfort and peace as they mourn her loss.
