Obituary

LODI - Jeff Potter was born in Madison, Wis., to George and Kathleen (Wold) Potter on August 25, 1962. Jeff passed away unexpectedly and tragically on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.


Jeff had an abundance of energy that he would use with friends causing mischief and playing any sport he could. Wrestling and golf became his passions where he excelled throughout high school and college. He was a kid at heart his entire life.


Jeff graduated from La Follette High School in 1980 and went on to attend culinary school to become a chef where his passion for cooking for others never ended.


After culinary school, Jeff began working at Gardner’s Bakery and he was so proud to follow in his dad’s footsteps. Being known as “the bread man” was something he touted so proudly for many years. In 2004, Jeff joined Pellitteri Waste Systems and managed their Data Destruction division until his recent retirement just two months ago. He loved his work family!


Jeff married the love of his life, June, in 1986. They welcomed three children, Drew, Morgan and Lexi, and raised them in Stoughton, Wis. A beloved father, Jeff was involved in all of his kids’ activities as the greatest coach, mentor and cheerleader.


He is survived by his wife, June (Gust) Potter; son, Drew Potter; daughters, Morgan (Jim) Steffes and Lexi Potter; brother, David (Karen) Potter; sisters-in-law, Colleen Potter and Mary Potter; sister, Judy Potter; mother-in-law, Helen Gust; sisters and brothers in-law, Kathy and Bob Whitaker, Butch and Leanne Gust, Sandy and Dan Duren, Teri and Jeff Robinson, and Shelly Billings and Mike Persack; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.


Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, George and Kathleen; brothers, Dennis and Steve; niece, Christine Potter; father-in-law, Kenneth (Skip) Gust; and his most recent beloved pets, Maddie and Penelope.


Jeff was loyal to all, and a stranger to no one. A prankster, a jokester, and always the first to help anyone. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. And know he loved and adored you all that touched his life!


A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Lake Windsor Country Club, 4628 Golf Drive, Windsor, WI 53598, from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

“Potter” - I am still in a state of shock to think you will not be around for our family get togethers. You were always the craziest one of the bunch and caused so much laughter. Jeff and June and I went to high school together, June was in my class, but I knew Jeff from elementary school on up, even though he was older. We also worked at Red Lobster and had an apartment in Windsor on Golf Road. He was a great guy and I saw how much he loved you June when he and I lived together. When we first moved into our new home on Tipperary we didn't know just how special that house would be...because of the beautiful neighbors to our east, The Potters. Jeff was always there, no matter what anyone needed. He loved the lake, you could see it in the way he welcomed everyone to stay at their cabin, the way he entertained people, the way he just talked to you...he was a buddy to our youngest daughter Renee, always having a freeze pop ready. We celebrated his retirement on the lake, sharing shots, a few beers, and talking smart...talking about the future, and golfing, and getting together for dinner...Jeff Potter, you made our life better because you welcomed us into your life. My most heartfelt sympathies to June and the entire family. It is a devastating loss. Thinking of Jeff always makes me smile. My husband, Mark, and Jeff were always up to something growing up.
