Obituary

MIDDLETON - Barbara A. Davenport, age 94, of Middleton, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on December 3, 1929, in Eau Claire, WI, the daughter of Albert and Helen (Farr) Krogman.

Barbara graduated from St Patrick’s (Regis) High School in 1948. Barb owned Stone Fence Fine Gifts from 1972 until 2010. She quickly realized that retirement did not suit her. She then worked for her good friend, Jan, at Happy Past Times Gifts in Middleton, until Jan retired. Still restless, she got a job at Bed, Bath, & Beyond, where she worked until they closed. Barb loved meeting people and listening to their stories, she said “I love people, people are my life.”

Barb’s family was everything to her and being a grandma and great-grandma was a joy in her life. She was creative and artistic, she had flair. An active spirit, Barb loved being out of doors, walking in the woods or chatting with neighbors on her daily walks. She participated in a women’s fitness group for over 20 years where she made lasting friendships. When relaxing, Barb was a lifelong reader. Traveling with her daughters to Europe and Quebec was very memorable for Barb and shagging fly balls for Hank Aaron when he was in Eau Claire was a highlight.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Daniel (Barb) Elwood, Stephen (Bonnie) Elwood and Marty Davenport; daughters, Mary Davenport Morton (Bob) and Donna Davenport Koehler (Chad); son-in-law, Michael Skinner; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Rebecca, Kelly, Devon, Kaitlin, Will and Lilly; and six great-grandchildren, Miguel, Jalessa, Taj’avon, Avery Grace, Riley Ann and Callen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helen; daughter, Ann Davenport Skinner; son, John Davenport; and four sisters and three brothers.

A Memorial Mass will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, with Father David Greenfield presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Wednesday.

We owned the Quizno's Sub shop near Stone Fence at Hilldale, which is how we met Barb. She was such a delight. She may not have realized that she was critical in our son's life. He was a junior tennis player, and Barb mentioned to us that her son-in-law Mike worked at an academy in Hilton Head. That casual referral from Barb led our son to experiences and training that helped him achieve the success he's had. For this reason, and for countless others, our family feels blessed to have been touched by Barb's kindness and thoughtfulness.

Barbara and I would share stories of our kids on a ride to early morning exercise at the Nat. She was an inspiration to me. She never stopped working, and was as sharp as a tack!

Fond memories of Barb. We became friends when she owned The Stone Fence Westowne and I worked at Prange's. Rest in peace Barb.
