Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Grace Schroeder, age 76, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at UW Hospital. She was born on October 30, 1947, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Edwin and Agnes (Schmitz) Nett.


Grace attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School from first through ninth grade and graduated from L.P. Goodrich High School in 1966. She proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1968 - 1971, attaining rank of Sergeant. She became a member of the Wisconsin National Guard in 1972, and American Legion in Mount Horeb from 2018 until her death.


Grace was united in marriage to Glenn Schroeder on December 27, 1975, and together they were blessed with five children. She worked as a clerk for State of Wisconsin, for 30 years, retiring in 2012.


Grace was faithful member of the Catholic Church over the years. She loved to sing and share her voice in the youth choir at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fond du Lac, St. Louis Catholic Church in Fond du Lac, St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Mount Horeb, Mount Horeb Community Chorale, Song of Norway Musical in Mount Horeb and also in the Mount Horeb production of “I Remember Mama.” Grace was also a reader, commentator and a member of the Catholic Council of Women at St. Ignatius. She was active with the Junior Women’s Club in Fond du Lac, and St. Anne’s Society and Parish Council at St. Louis Catholic Church.


Grace was very involved in her community. She served as a Girl Scout Leader, was active at the Mount Horeb Senior Center, Mount Horeb Community Closet, Ingleside Nursing Home in Mount Horeb and Madison Multicultural Center.


Grace is survived by her daughters, Susan Schroeder, Theresa (Michael) Buechner, Patricia Schroeder and Julie (David) Sutter; son, Adam Schroeder; and grandchildren, Noah Sutter, Elijah Sutter, Jameson Sutter and Xander Buechner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Schroeder (March 29, 2013); and parents, Edwin and Agnes; sister, Laurel; brother, Eugene; nephew, Daniel; grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and two brothers-in-law.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. IGNATIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 109 S. Sixth St., Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday.


Memorials may be made to Relay for Life or Mount Horeb American Legion.

The last time Debra and I talked with Grace was a couple of years ago. Grace and Mary Williams visited us in our camping trailer which was parked on the farm. We had a very nice time chatting. This was a couple of years ago. And now Grace is gone. Her passing took me by surprise as I was not aware of her recent health problems. We can't attend the funeral as I'm having cataract surgery during that time. Regardless, our prayers will be for all of those who cared about and loved Grace. Shalom, Debra and Bob Thornton

I met Grace attending Fit For Life fitness class at the Mt Horeb Senior Center and exercised alongside her for several years before covid. She would often sing along to the music, and loved to dance too! Her mischievous nature in class was contagious, and I enjoyed singing and dancing along with her. She was spunky and made the class more fun for me! After class she would share stories about her life, and photos and adventures with her family and grandchildren. Covid put an end to all that, eventually having classes on-line only. But I would run into her very occasionally at the library or Millers and enjoy spending some time catching up. She was a sweet presence in Mt Horeb, and I am sad to learn of her passing. My thoughts are with Grace's family in their loss. With care, Carolyn White
