Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Marlene Benora Bridges, age 83, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on September 6, 1941, in Madison, the daughter of Glenn and Joyce (Disch) Helland.

Marlene graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1959. She was a clerical worker for Rayovac for over 25 years. She worked in the mini mart at Premier Co-op in Mount Horeb and was always known for the cookies that she baked.

Marlene loved to share her time volunteering at the Mount Horeb Senior Center, helping make meals and playing bingo with the community.

Marlene enjoyed knitting and quilting. She was passionate about making quilts for soldiers who had come home from overseas. She also knitted dish rags for the Mount Horeb Senior Center, donating over one hundred over the holidays. Marlene enjoyed spending time at their family cabin up north, especially the drive up which included many stops at quilting and antique shops.

Marlene is survived by her sisters, Sheila Helland and Greta (Dewey) Duerst; brother, Philip (Trish) Helland; stepdaughter, Valerie Bridges; stepson, Leon Bridges; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Joyce; and brother, Craig Helland.

A special thank you to her nephew, Tom Duerst, and niece, Teresa Duerst, who took care of her the last few years.

I will always remember staying with cousins Marlene and Greta in New Glarus. We would drive around and go to the root beer stand and get ice cream. Rest in Peace. Julie Scott.

So sad to hear of Marlene's passing. Thoughts and prayers for the family during this difficult time. I got to know Marlene when I started working nightshift at MHPD. We would always stop in at the West Coop to check on her when she was doing her overnight baking. We traded story's and jokes and had many laughs. She will be missed. Robie Blankenship MHPD-Retired

I’m so sorry to hear of Marlene’s passing. I had the privilege of delivering her medications from the Mt Horeb Pharmacy when I worked there a few years ago. She was always so sweet and appreciative, I just loved chatting with her! She will be missed!😢
