Obituary

STOUGHTON - Jane Phyllis Cable, age 87, of Stoughton, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2024, at her home. She was born on December 1, 1936, in Algonac, Mich., the second of four daughters born to Phillip and Margurite (DeRush) Smith.

Jane left the family farm at age 18 to find her fortune in Chicago. There she met Nicholas Urban, whom she married in 1958.  She had two daughters, Debbie and Denise, and left the city shortly after to raise her children in the suburbs. Nick and Jane divorced in 1974 but remained loyal friends and devoted parents.

Jane worked as a team leader for American Hospital Supply/Cardinal Health as an Assembly Supervisor. She took great pride in her home (every bush trimmed and weed pulled on the outside; every surface gleamed; and all in its place on the inside). Somehow, she maintained these standards until the last days of her life. Jane masterfully decorated for the holidays and gave “Better Homes and Gardens,” a run for their money. She was an exceptional cook and baker whose Christmas cookies were second-to-none.  Jane excelled at gardening. She resurrected plants that everyone else would have considered a lost cause. She loved nature and admired wildlife, particularly birds, at her country home in Wisconsin. In her later years, she “monitored” her daughter's horses, reporting anything that ran amok. Most notably, Jane deeply loved her family and was a great mother.

Jane is survived by her daughters, Denise (Joseph) Myers and Deborah (Thomas) Hohmeier; grandsons, Nicholas and Lucas Myers; sisters, Janette Pomeroy and Marylen Niebuer; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, Nicholas Urban; and her eldest sister, Joan Waggoner.

With full hearts, we thank the outstanding providers from Agrace Hospice, who served us with sincere kindness and compassion. And we are forever grateful for friends and family who supported us though this journey in so many ways.

We have known Jane for a few years. I would occasionally see her when I was over visiting her daughter Denise and son in law Joe. She was always engaging and always had wisdom and advise to give. I would occasionally run into her at walgreens and we would chat with her while waiting for our prescriptions to be filled. My wife and I are truly sorry to friends & family on her recent passing. If Denise, and Joe, are even a small reflection of Jane then we really missed out on an incredible lady. We look forward to some stories of Jane the next time we visit! Dan and Pam

Jane touched my heart and I will forever cherish her gift and special pinning of the guardian angel pin she presented to me. Special people cross our paths in life just when we need it most. Jane was a delight to this world and in my brief crossing with her path, I will truly cherish her memory forever. Denise, my heart hurts for your loss. But, you have Jane’s gift of a positive outlook and loving kindness that are embedded in you. I hope our path’s cross again soon. Take Care, Maria Johnson
