Robert J. Borufka

EVANSVILLE - Robert Borufka, a man whose life was a testament to selflessness, generosity, and love, has left a legacy of warmth and guidance that will be cherished by all who knew him.  He passed away on Monday, Sept. 30, 2024, at the age of 77. He was born on May 31, 1947, in Black River Falls, the son of Adolph Borufka Jr. and Muriel (Stein) Borufka.

Robert graduated from Black River Falls High School and received his master’s degree from UW-Whitewater.  Robert was a lifelong learner, who was last working towards his Ph.D.  He worked as a Special Education Teacher for a variety of school districts, ultimately retiring from Racine Unified School District at Horlick High School.

Robert’s life revolved around the life of his family and students. His generosity knew no bounds. His actions were a testament to his unwavering commitment to his family, friends and students.

His love for teaching extended to his personal life, where he shared life lessons of acceptance and his knowledge of fishing, shooting, and playing cards with his beloved daughter and students alike. Robert's enthusiasm for card games, particularly Sheepshead, led him to become an active member of numerous card clubs, where his friendly spirit and keen intellect made him a favorite among his peers.

A man of strong faith, Robert was deeply involved in his church community. He lived his beliefs through his actions, consistently helping others and volunteering his time to support his church. Robert was a recent and active member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a past member of the Mason’s and Zor Shriners, where he rode with the Nomads on motorcycles in parades. His ability to impart life lessons to his family while simultaneously reaching out to assist the less fortunate spoke volumes about his character.

Robert's athletic abilities were evident from his youth. He went to state for high school football and was also active in high school basketball, wrestling and baseball. His love for sports never waned. He was an ardent supporter of the Badgers, Brewers, Packers, and Bucks and very much enjoyed attending local sporting events with family and friends. As an adult he participated in leagues for bowling and horseshoes with friends and colleagues in Racine.

Robert cherished his visits with his sister, Lorraine and brother-in-law, Gene, and family at their Cranberry marsh. He also loved his time with his family at the marsh. Many nights were spent laughing, playing cards and various board games. His laugh was so infectious that we all laughed until we cried.

His connection to friends and their families was profound, and Robert's warm personality meant he never met a stranger. His travels often led to new friendships, and his love for the outdoors was matched by his skill as an accomplished fisherman, with Florida's waters serving as a frequent backdrop for his angling adventures. He loved to fish especially while visiting his grandparents, Adolph Sr. and Kathryn Borufka, in Panama City, Fla. Robert, Barb and Alicia loved visiting family there, deep sea fishing, and going to the beaches.

Robert will be missed by his former wife and best friend, Barbara Jacobson; daughter, Alicia (Ryan) Forrer; grandchildren, Mia and Maddilynn Forrer; sisters, Lorraine (Gene) Ellis and Laurie (Bobby Blakely) Madusha.  He is further survived by other loving family of: Chris Jacobson (deceased); Patti (Chuck) Suchomel, DeAnne (Jerome) Klein, Terri (Andrew) Jacobson, Lori (Herb) Dieter and all their children and extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Muriel; his father, Adolph Borufka Jr.; grandparents, Adolph Sr. and Kathryn; nephew, Shawn Ellis; and his brother-in-laws, Chris (Brenda) Jacobson and Gilbert M. Rankin.

A private family burial will take place this summer.
