Obituary

BROOKLYN - Mary Ellen (Rodenschmit) Raemisch, age 97, of Brooklyn, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born at her grandparents’ farm near Cross Plains, Wis., along with her twin sister, Anna May, on May 25, 1927, to Frank W. and Juliana (Schmelzer) Rodenschmit.

Mary Ellen attended St. Francis Xavier Grade School and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1945. She was later employed at the Department of Public Instruction. She was united in marriage to Charles F. Raemisch on May 14, 1949, at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cross Plains. Together they farmed and raised their children on the Raemisch family farm near Verona and later they moved to Brooklyn and continued to farm with their children.

Mary Ellen was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Mary Ellen. She was proud of all her children’s and grandchildren’s education and accomplishments. She enjoyed the pets and farm animals, gardening and flowers, especially her gladiolas and peonies. She loved to can and freeze the foods her family grew. Having grown up on the farm, she learned how to crow like a rooster just to ruffle the roosters’ feathers.

She will be fondly remembered as witty, tenacious, quiet, caring and thoughtful. She was up to date on current events and was the keeper of a great deal of knowledge. Mary Ellen had the uncanny ability to find joy and happiness in everything she did, and her pleasant personality was contagious to all who knew her.

Mary Ellen is survived by her children, Carl (Cathleen), Nancy, Frank (Stephanie), William (Catherine) and Kathy (Chris); son-in-law, Gary; grandchildren, Veronica (Nathan), Quincy, Heather (Craig), Christopher (Beth), Michael (Kara), Sara, Nicholas (Rebekka), Charles (Karla), Matthew, Aimee, Fritz and Anna; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Ethan, Lyla, Molly, Theodore, Tynan, Ryder, Hailey and Olivia; sisters, Carol and Alice; sister-in-law, Jan; and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Juliana; husband, Charles; daughter, Linda; twin sister, Anna May (Bertrand); sisters, Helen and Susan (Elmer); brothers, Edwin and William; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Andy) and Esther (Sanford); and brothers-in-law, Frances and Claire.
