Obituary
MADISON - Melinda Cherek, age 63, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital, in Madison, Wis., on Sept. 17, 2024. She was born on Feb. 2, 1961, the daughter of Kenneth Sr. and Shirley (Williams) Coy.
Mindy married Peter Cherek on Sept. 17, 1988, and together they have two children, Wendy (Tim) Paoletti of Melissa, Texas and Brent (Ellen) of Madison, Wis. Mindy has two grandchildren that she adored, Leo and Christian Paoletti.
Mindy, a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, was a beacon of love and kindness to all who knew her. Born and raised in Shullsburg, Wis., she was a graduate of Shullsburg High School. For 28 years, she dedicated herself to her work as a diet clerk at St. Mary’s Health Care Center, where her warmth and care touched the lives of many.
Mindy’s heart was most at home in her flower gardens. Whether walking with friends or her dog Benji, or sitting and sharing stories with her family, Mindy’s presence brought comfort and joy. She had a passion for collecting angels, and now, she has truly become the most radiant guardian angel of all.
Her gentle spirit, kindness, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her. She had a beautiful smile and a laugh that was contagious to all. Mindy was deeply loved, and she will be missed beyond words.
Mindy is survived by her mother, Shirley Coy; brothers, Kenneth Jr. (Judy) Coy and Doug (Linda) Coy; sisters; Patricia (Charles) Diaz, Vicky (Bernie) Coy, Becky (Jim) Krakofsky, Melanie (Lonnie) Troy and Angie (Ken) Friedrichs; sisters-in-law, Wendy Reilly (Kevin), Jennifer Leyer (Thomas) and Lennie Franz (William); and other relatives and friends.
Mindy was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Coy Sr.; sister, Penny Coy; nieces, Amy Krakofsky, Lisa Krakofsky and Missy Reed; nephew, Rodney Corley; father-in-law, Leonard Cherek; mother-in-law, June Cherek; and brother-in-law, Bill Cherek.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospital for their kind and loving care, as well to all that visited and called.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
