Obituary
STOUGHTON-Clyde “Butch” Chamberlain, age 67, of Stoughton, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, of an apparent heart attack. He was born on July 8, 1946, in Madison, the son of Clyde “Bud” and Virginia (Gahan) Chamberlain. Butch graduated from Madison East High School in 1965. He was united in marriage to Mary Jo Selvaag on Jan. 13, 1979, during a record-setting blizzard.
After retiring from American Family Butch spent four years as a school bus driver at Martin Luther Christian Schools, lovingly known as “Mr. Clyde”.
Butch enjoyed camping, boating, tubing, and going to the Archery Center with his children. He loved spending time on his “little piece of paradise”, their 17 acre home. Family gatherings and spending time at the pool, where he mastered the flip, were also times he treasured. Butch’s other focuses were deer hunting and fishing, especially teaching his grandchildren how to fish, and time spent at “Camp Will-Em-Inn”, where many great memories were made.
Butch is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Chamberlain; son, Brad (Marla) Chamberlain; daughters, Jodi Chamberlain, Melanie (Edwin Bratz) Chamberlain and Brigitte (Shane Frank) Chamberlain; son, Shane (Amanda Hunt) Chamberlain; seven grandchildren, Kiara Harris, Zachary Chamberlain, Kaitlynn Chamberlain, Chyla Chamberlain, Riley Chamberlain Mills, Kaden Chamberlain Frank and Emmalyn Chamberlain; one great-grandson, Jerimiah Harris; sister Kerry Ann (Mike) McCloskey; brother, Gary (Teri) Chamberlain; mother-in-law, Jeannine Selvaag; brother-in-law, Mark Selvaag; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Eric Selvaag.
Funeral services will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, with Father Michael Radowicz presiding. A luncheon will follow at American Legion Post 59, 803 N. Page St., Stoughton. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL HOME, 1358 Hwy. 51, Stoughton, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
The family would like to extend special thanks to his physical therapist, Cathy, for all her encouragement while recovering from his hip replacement surgery, and being there at the right time.

Today is our son's birthday. We were so young and having this little creature was a challenge for us. I remember yelling at you when I was in labor. We weathered many storms together and remained friends through all of our challenges. Your family took me in as one of theirs for evermore and my heart is breaking for your children, MaryJo and all of us who loved you. So ride on brave warrior to that other place that will give you peace and eternal love.

I was lucky enough to know Butch as a friend and as a co-worker. I got to bowhunt with him in knee deep snow after being invited to Will-Em-Inn near Clam Lake WI. Hunting was where I got to see him in one of his favorite places. Deer camp and sleeping in a tent in winter conditions was a paradise and proof there wasn’t a mountain man alive with which he couldn’t contend. He beamed with the confidence and experience of surviving the elements many times. He was a mountain man whenever he chose to be one.
I will miss his beaming smile, crushing handshake, and genuine “how’s it goin’ buddy” each time I got to see him. He was the kind of guy that when you met him, you remembered it. My heart goes out to his family whom he truly cherished.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I haven't seen Butch in 25 years, since his father's funeral, but I cried like I had just seen him a few days ago when I heard that he had passed. I worked at Bud's West the last two years it was open, and have many fond memories of working with him (and the rest of the Chamberlain family). It sounds like he was an incredible father and grandpa. May you find comfort in your memories and knowing that someday you'll be together again.

We only had the chance to meet Butch once and were planning on spending many other good times with him Mary Jo and their family. We are very fortunate to have met him and his family through our son Edwin's relationship with Melanie who with Chyla and Riley are very dear to our hearts. Our hearts are heavy with grief for Mary Jo and family. We are also grateful for the time Edwin had with Butch, Chyla and Riley Fishing and doing awesome Fish Fries. We trust that the Next Place is wonderful for you Butch. Andy, Ruth and Ella Bratz.

Mary Jo, your mom was kind enough to leave a message on our voice mail a few minutes ago to inform us of Butch's death. We are in shock. Mom and I were planning to attend Eric's memorial on Saturday. My heart just aches for you, Mary Jo. I remember your "blizzard" wedding very well as I did make it driving alone (by the Grace of God).
