Obituary

MADISON - James Anthony Copeland, age 43, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024, after a long battle with depression. He was born on Feb. 12, 1981, in Gary, IN., the son of Brenda Wilson and Donald Copeland.

James graduated from Madison West High School, with the class of 1998. He was a hard worker and over the years, worked for Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Stoughton Trailers, Advanced Centrifugals, and Schoep’s Ice Cream.

James will be fondly remembered for his fun-loving sense of humor and goofy antics. He enjoyed playing video games, listening to music, playing the drums, and dabbling with the guitar. He had a passion for reading, especially mythological and political books, writing, and drawing. He enjoyed watching movies, especially the Marvel series, and cooking for his family. James enjoyed having his cats and other pets around him, but most importantly, he adored his daughters and loved spending time with them.

James is survived by his daughters, Athena, Miya, and Lilith Copeland and their mother, Jessica Copeland; mother, Brenda Wilson; father, Donald Copeland; sisters, Brandy George-Copeland and Antonia Sheridan; brother, Kiefer Sheridan; nephews, Branden Higgans-Copeland and Octavius George-Copeland; niece, Chloe Zaharah George-Copeland; maternal grandmother, Mamie L Stump; and loving fiancé, Poindexter "Dexi" McBean, and her daughters and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Donielle Copeland; stepfather, Larry Haynes; and step grandfather, Albert Stump.

James was a great person. Playing guitar and loving music. That's how he met my Fiance. They became friends instantly. Then our families met, the girls love my kids and my kids love Jess and the girls. Praying for all family that has been hurt by his loss. Especially the girls he left behind...

My name is Deb, I am a cashier at Jenifer St Market. While he worked at Schoep’s James came in every morning for a snack, cold drink, lunch or what have you. From Day 1, when I saw him he had a big smile on his face and always a kind word for anyone he saw at the store, whether it was a customer or one of my co-workers. I know how hard he worked. He seemed so happy, relaxed and chill. He loved life. He was so excited about getting a new job and moving on from Schoep’s. I told him I would miss seeing him because he always made me smile & feel good. My condolences. What a great guy. I’m so sad to hear he’s gone. May his memories be a blessing to you.
