Obituary
MADISON - Ruth Ann Phillips, age 80, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on Sept. 11, 1944, the daughter of Keith and Sarah (Anderson) Waddell.
Ruth graduated from Edgewood High School in 1962. She was united in marriage to Peter Phillips on July 1, 1967, at St. Patrick’s Church, in Madison, Wis.
Ruth had a lifelong love and caring for children. She was a crossing guard for Lowell Elementary for over a decade, retiring in 2015. She enjoyed playing scrabble, crafting, and collecting Department 56 Christmas Village memorabilia as well as carousel and carousel horses. She loved traveling and her trip to Norway was special as she was proud of her Norwegian ancestry. Ruth was an animal lover and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In her free time, she enjoyed volunteering at St. Bernard Catholic Church.
Ruth is survived by her son, David Phillips; daughter, Mary Gilbert; grandchildren, Jordan Gilbert and Kylee Gilbert; aunt, Linda Anderson; nephews, Dan and Matt; and nieces, Julie, Tricia, Annie and Jenny. She was preceded in death by her parents, Keith and Sarah; husband, Peter; brother, Ron (Ceil) Waddell; parents-in-law, Lyle and Ruth Phillips; sister-in-law, Donna Rantella; and nieces, Becky and Bobbie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Monday.
