Maddon Nathanial Rossing

SUN PRAIRIE - Maddon Nathanial Rossing, age 17, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, tragically passed away due to a vehicle accident on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024. He was born on June 16, 2007, in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of Jeff and Madeleine (Kozlowski) Rossing.

Maddon attended the Sun Prairie school district for many years. He played cello in the school orchestra, and he also played piano. Most recently, he was attending virtual school through Wise Academy. Maddon enjoyed working with many of his friends at Primal Cue in Sun Prairie. He was a lifelong member of Calvary Gospel Church.

Maddon entered this world with a lasting impression. He had to be unique, like having a full head of black hair unlike his blonde parents and brother. He was a ladies’ man from the start, stealing the hearts of so many with his amazing blue eyes, long lashes, everlasting pouty lower lip, but mostly with that beautiful smile.

Mister independent had to do things his way and on his own. If he didn’t want to do something, he did his best not to. For example, leaving school grounds in the middle of the day when in kindergarten. He made it to our neighbors’ house and asked if the boys could play. All because he didn’t want to take a nap! His free spirit and independence carried on until his last day here on this earth.

Growing up, Maddon enjoyed playing football with so many of his friends. He loved being outdoors - camping and vacationing with close friends and family, swimming with his cousins at grandma's house, being up north, hunting, fishing, skateboarding, snowboarding, paddleboarding, and kayaking. He enjoyed reading, gaming, and listening to music. He loved hanging out with his friends and his beloved dog, Blue.

Maddon had a sweet tooth just like his mom. Sneaking cookies to his room started at age 3. He looked forward to making “ugly” gingerbread houses at grandma’s house with his cousins while they raced to use the pretty candies before he ate them. Making lefsa with Eliza and Grandma Kitty was also a tradition.

We will miss the amazing hugs that Maddon was so willing to share. His compassion and willingness to help others have left a great impression. His heart was as big as his hands! Maddon was young at heart and had the gift of connecting with people of all ages. He had the ability to forgive and forget and just move on to the next fun adventure. His love for God was evident in the way he worshipped and in how he wanted others to experience the joy and peace that can only be found in the presence of God.

Maddon is survived by his parents, Jeff and Madeleine; brothers, Nolan and Oliver “Merle” Rossing; paternal grandparents, Glen and Kitty Rossing; uncles, Craig (Jane) Rossing, Nathan (Krista) Rossing and Andrew Kozlowski; aunt, Kari Gollup; cousins, Oakley, Eliza and Miles Gollup; and Grandma Jan Reger. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Victor Kozlowski and Alicja Miller.

A funeral service will be held at CALVARY GOSPEL CHURCH, 5301 Commercial Ave., Madison, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, with Rev. Roy Grant presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.  A dinner will follow the service on Tuesday at the church. A private burial will be held at the Sun Prairie City Cemetery.
