Obituary

MIDDLETON - Erica Rae Meylor entered into the peace of eternal life on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, with her family holding her close.

Erica was born on Nov. 29, 1976, to Jerry and Deborah (Lawinger) Meylor. She attended schools in Cottage Grove and Monona, and graduated at the top of her class from Monona Grove High School in 1995. She received a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1999.

After college, Erica began her career with the Meridian Group and was lucky enough to have that work relationship become so satisfying that she never left. Erica was a humble, kind, considerate and caring person, so good at understanding and helping people and her work gave her the opportunity to utilize those qualities in many different ways. Her friends and co-workers at Meridian became her second family and she was thankful for them all.

Erica was a courageous fighter, a "warrior" as one aunt put it, not just with the cancer she battled, but as a way of life. She was determined and never gave up on something she started. Erica was a minimalist, before it became popular, against "stuff" (except shoes)! Erica enjoyed sports and was good at most things she tried, especially softball. She was a lover of all things kitchen: utensils, small appliances, experimenting with recipes; it could be hard to be her sous- chef!

Erica enjoyed time with family, walks, coffee shops, a good book, true crime podcasts and the Friends tv show. At times Erica had a quiet demeanor, and she was a private person, but her insights and contributions were always spot on. She was an excellent writer and speaker. Her sense of humor was dry, she also had a goofy side and was so much fun. She was beautiful inside and out.

One of Erica’s greatest joys on this earth was her sister, Brittany, and brother-in-law, Spencer, and their children, Sawyer and Maeven. When Erica became "Aunt e" her smiles never quit; she took that designation as a badge of honor and brought them love, silliness and fun in abundance.

Erica is survived by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, her nephew and niece, wonderful aunts, uncles and cousins, and many friends. Erica was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edward and Lillian Lawinger and Red and Barb Meylor, and Frank Zaffino, all of Mineral Point; uncle, Jim Meylor; aunt, Becky Meylor; and uncle, Fred Lawinger.

A funeral service for Erica will be held at HILLCREST BIBLE CHURCH, 752 E. Netherwood St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024, with Pastor Fred Schmitt presiding. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. Burial will take place at Door Creek Cemetery, 2397 Ofsthun Road, Cottage Grove, Wis.

Memorials may be made in Erica’s name to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (ocrahope.org) or to the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (wiscmedicine@supportuw.org).

Erica, we will miss you until we are all together again. We love you all the veries.

To the family of Erica Erica was truly one of a kind. She made me laugh on days that I had trouble finding any good. She was the voice of reason in many items I brought to her. To her mom and dad you raised a wonderful person. To her sister she would talk about you and your kids and you could just feel the love she had for all of you Your family is in my thoughts and prayers Angie Grim
