Obituary

MAUSTON - With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Randy Lee Tyler, age 76, of Mauston, on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, at Agrace HospiceCare, surrounded by his loving family.


Born on June 12, 1948, in Richland Center, Randy was the son of Raymond and Phyllis (Nelson) Tyler. Randy raised three wonderful sons, Josh, Jeremy and Jake, who were his pride and joy. On July 2, 2005, he married Linda (Kathy) Tyler, who he loved dearly, at Church of God in Reedsburg.


A graduate of Wonewoc-Center High School in 1966, Randy went on to serve his country with honor in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, on the Destroyer USS Richard B. Anderson. His commitment to service continued as he dedicated 25 years to the Juneau County Sheriff's Department as Lead Detective. Randy's contributions extended beyond his career; he was a respected Life Member of the VFW Post 2114, Mauston American Legion Post 81, the Vietnam Veterans Association, and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).


Randy’s greatest joy was his family. He found immense happiness in attending his granddaughter's sporting events and cherished his FaceTime moments with his grandson in Washington, DC. His unwavering love and devotion will remain a guiding light for his children and grandchildren.


Randy is survived by his beloved wife, Linda (Kathryn); his sons, Joshua (Kristen) Tyler, Jeremy (Heather) Tyler and Jacob Tyler; stepchildren, Christopher Summy and Michelle (Mike) Bogdanovic; his precious grandchildren, Grace, Lane, Blakely and Jack Tyler; and his brothers, Robert (Sandy) Tyler and Richard Tyler. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister-in-law, Sharon Tyler.


A memorial service will be held at UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 208 N. East St. Wonewoc, Wis., at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. 2024. A burial service with Full Military Honors will follow at Pine Eden Cemetery, 104 School Road, Wonewoc.


Randy’s celebration of life will be held at the MAUSTON AMERICAN LEGION POST 81, 1055 E. State St., Mauston, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024. Bring your stories to share about Randy’s life and a luncheon will be provided.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mauston American Legion Post 81. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I remember Randy and I we were investigating Rick Houseworth Death, We are following leads all night going all over the state getting bits of information. Finally at 6:30 in the morning, we caught up to the suspect. We invited the subject to have a seat in the car and I’m sitting behind the suspect. Randy Tyler slowly went through what we had uncovered to the suspect. He asked the subject to give a Written statement. The subject was shaking so bad that Randy had the right statement for him. At the very end, we ask him to sign the statement, and the guy was shaking so bad he couldn’t sign his own name. I put my hand on the suspects shoulder. I said to him you know why you ran because you don’t have a drivers license. He said I know I should’ve stopped, but I panicked then the next day I found out the officer that was chasing me got killed Randy turn to me, a little smile on his face . We arrested the subject told dispatch for 1095 1076 to the office. You could hear the officers in the background cheering that we got this kid that was the morning of Rick Houseworth Funeral. That was probably one of the most satisfying arrests I’ve ever been involved in. Thank you, Randy.!!!’n

Unc, I'm going to miss you alot. I want to remember you when I last saw you with Kathy made a nice n unexpected visit last year. Thanks for the ride-alongs and inspiring me to be a police detective..plus, cleaning metal next to you at grandpa's, and taking my chocolate chip oatmeal cookies from me..plus money you sent me when you were in the Navy (that I spent on a toy..I think you were a little upset at the time.. lol). Gonna miss you. Love Terry and my dog Thunder

I remember as we were all growing up the fun we had with your Dad and the junk yard and as you all went into police work how proud I was of all 3 of you. You will be forever missed.
