Obituary

MADISON, WI - Sutz Fey Kinney, age 86, peacefully passed away Monday night, August 26, 2024, at Oakwood East Prairie Ridge.

She was born March 30, 1938, in Elmhurst, IL, the daughter of Kan Quong and Shu Yau Chin Moy.

After graduating from Elmhurst High School, Sutz Fey attended UW - Madison and earned her bachelor’s in arts. She married Irvin Kinney on May 26, 1961, in Madison.  Six years later they moved from their westside apartment on Petra Place to the home they built in the country on Hwy 19.  Sutz Fey gardened to supplement the grocery bill.  She always had a green thumb with plants and was able to abundantly grow just about every kind of vegetable on a plot the size of a tennis court!  The custom jewelry industry her husband worked in was slowing due to the industrial manufacturing of wedding bands and engagement rings, so Sutz Fey went back to school and studied for her associate degree in data processing/computer programming from MATC.  Learning this skill allowed her to supplement the family needs and her second career took off.  After working 10+ years in the Madison area, she looked for jobs in California to follow a dream her and her husband had always discussed regarding moving out to that state.

Sutz Fey worked as a computer programmer for Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield for 15 years until retiring in 2002 when she then moved back to Wisconsin to be with her husband and live in the house they built.  She was a talented cook and baker and had a variety of interests, including sudoku, coupon clipping and current events. Sutz Fey was a long-time member of the UW Memorial Union, where she would take her young daughter to play.

Sutz Fey is preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Kinney; parents, Kan Quong and Shu Yau Moy; sister, Edith (Stanley) Yee; sister, Mary Moy Wong; brothers-in-law, Olan Kinney, Eugene Kinney, Alfred (Jessie) Kinney, and Herman (Doris) Kinney; sisters-in-law, Louise (Jerry) White, Evelyn (Dee) Gilliam, and Joan (Harry) LaPlant; and niece, Vanessa Gilliam.
