Obituary
STOUGHTON - Mary Catherine Tofte, age 95, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Huntington Place, Janesville, under the care of Bristol Hospice, Madison, Wis. She was born on February 16, 1929, in Oregon, Wis., the daughter of the late Clyde and Verdie (Olson) Powers. She was confirmed at First Methodist Church, Oregon and was a member of First Lutheran Church, Stoughton, Wis.
Mary graduated from Oregon High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to Clifford Conrad Tofte on March 20, 1948, where they lived together in Stoughton until his passing in 2004. She worked for the Lutheran Social Services for 32 years. She loved growing plants and flowers, playing cards (especially Euchre), word puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved sports and was a great fan of the Packers, Badgers, Cubs and Brewers.
Mary is survived by her two sons, Robert (Karen) Tofte of Kodak, Tenn. and Michael (Terry) Tofte of Poplar Grove, Ill.; six grandchildren, Kirsten, Erik, Kyle, Shawn, Leah and Cole; five great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Madelynn, Elijah, Latham and Asher; and a sister, Doris Schnable. She is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda Lou; husband, Clifford; sisters, Helen, Roberta and Virginia; and brothers, Charles and Harvey.
A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. at Jackson St., Stoughton, at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025. Burial will follow at Lutheran South Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial at the funeral home. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
