Obituary

AURORA, Colo. - Rose Marie Housley, 91, passed away peacefully, on Aug. 18, 2024, in Stoughton, Wis. Born Oct. 1, 1932, in Carterville, Mo., to Herbert and Marva Ryan she was the oldest of four children.  She grew up, along with her brothers, Jack, Pat and Mike, around the Lake of the Ozarks.

Rose was the beloved wife of Willard Housley for 58 years and the matriarch of the family.  Her family included five children, David, Jay, Brian, Pam and Will Jr.; 16 grandchildren (you know who you are); and at least 28 great-grandchildren (that we know of). Whether joining the family by birth or marriage, Mom counted them all as hers and loved them equally well.

She will be remembered by her generous spirit, her love of crocheting, sewing, baking, her strong character, and sense of humor. Some words her grandchildren used to describe her are: caring, fierce, gifted, resilient, talented, honest, and a gameaholic. Rose enjoyed bowling and golfing, well into her 80's and continued playing cards with family and friends. In her lifetime she was valedictorian of her graduating class, a secretary, and a home maker.

Mom impacted her community through her regular donation of plasma.  Having the RH- factor allowed her to donate her plasma to be used as an antidote so other women could have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies.  There is no way of knowing just how many families were impacted by her giving.

Mom’s faith was a quiet, but ever present one.  She spoke to God daily, lifting family and friends in prayer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; all three of her brothers; and her sons, David and Jay.  Their reunion in Heaven will be sweet.

One fall day her remains will be returned to Missouri. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Rosa was the receptionist at the optometric practice I bought in 1983. She literally ran the place and helped me learn the ropes of running the practice, keeping me in businesss! She had the greatest smile and laugh. I always admired her for bowling and playing golf into her 80's and I aspire to play golf that long (bowling isn't in the cards any longer!) We have kept in touch all these years (41 years!) never missing a birthday or Christmas letter to each other. Last year, I was in Ft. Worth for a conference and went a day early so I could see her and Willard. I am so glad I did, as we had a great visit and I was the lucky recipient of a couple of her crocheted dish cleaners. She showed me all of her many projects with obvious pride. She was an amazing person and it was my honor to have worked with her and to call her my friend.
