Obituary

JANESVILLE - Ronald F. Stamm, our source for all good advice, departed the world on Aug. 17, 2024, at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Born on Nov. 23, 1939, in Madison, Wis., to Margaret (Etges) and Edward Stamm, Ron loved growing up in Oregon, Wis. When he moved there in high school, he felt he was “home,” and he made many life-long friends there.  He graduated from Oregon High School in 1957 and began an apprenticeship in carpentry where he would hone the skills of a true craftsman. Many communities and people were lucky to be touched by his skill.

He was self-employed and was employed by several area construction firms including McKee Associates, Connery Construction, Stevens Construction, and Corporate Construction. He also served as the Assessor for the town of Oregon and proudly served in the United States Army Reserve for seven years.

With his first wife he welcomed two children, Lori and Steve. In 1982, he met Lorraine “Lori” (Pass), and they were married in 1996. Ron loved everything to do with lake life and they had several well-loved vacation homes over the years. In retirement, they moved to Phillips, Wis., where he was able to enjoy swimming, boating, fishing and tinkering in his shop - all the things that make life worthwhile. Later they moved to Arizona to enjoy the warmer weather but returned home to Wisconsin in 2023 where he was happy to resume Saturday breakfast with long-time friends.

He is survived by his wife, Lori Stamm, and their blended family: daughter, Lori Nelson of White Salmon, Wash.; sons, Steve Stamm of Brooklyn, Wis., Steve Speth of Tucson, Ariz., and Paul (Anne) Speth of Mineral Point, Wis.; grandchildren, Lillian and Christopher Nelson and Samantha Campuzano; siblings, Tom (Connie) Stamm and Rick Stamm; nephews, Nick (Mary) Stamm and great-niece Clara; and Andrew Stamm (Jen); and many cousins and friends, including his loyal fishing buddies with whom he enjoyed 36 years of annual trips. He is also survived by his best friend, Maddie, the “little” dog he never wanted, but who stole his heart. He was predeceased by his parents; and daughter, Leanne.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., at 12 noon on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, with luncheon to follow. Per Ron’s request, laughter and casual summer attire are encouraged.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Dane County or the Southern Wisconsin Humane Society. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Ron was a good neighbor. I thought of him often after he moved away from Oregon decades ago. I remember fondly his love of juke boxes, Acorn windows and El Caminos! RIP Ron

I was probably 6 or7 when Ron built our house on Brook St in Oregon. (1972?)He and his family became good friends. An old hand drill was left at the building site and my dad, Ernie Novara, used it all the time! Since his death, I have it and use it all the time! I always say “thanks Ron” when I use it!! Thinking of you all! Julie Hagen ( Novara )

Always there for a laugh, always there with a helping hand, and always ready for a buffet dinner at the casino. The best neighbor ever! With thoughts of love and kindness.
