Obituary

MADISON - Mark Hurtig, age 67, passed away on Aug. 8, 2024, in Madison, Wis. He was born on May 13, 1957, in Minneapolis, Minn. Mark led a life marked by dedication and passion, from his early days at Monona Grove High School to his various professional and personal adventures.

Mark's career was predominantly shaped by his role as a top sales leader at Morley Murphy Company, where he not only excelled professionally but also made numerous lifelong friends. His career began after honorable service from the U.S. Navy, when he began serving in the Hawaii Police Department, proudly walking the path laid by his father.

Beyond his professional life, Mark was an avid collector of coins and an enthusiastic follower of the financial market. He cherished his time on the water, owning a boat and spending many joyful days on the lake.

Mark leaves behind a loving family, including his daughters, Jennifer (Jamie) Anderson and Stephanie Hurtig; his former spouse, Julie Hurtig; grandchildren, Piper and Kash; siblings, Michelle Martin, Michael DeKruif, and Scott DeKruif; and numerous friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dianne DeKruif, Jerry DeKruif and Kenneth Hurtig; and his grandparents, John and Leone Lloyd.

Mark's legacy of storytelling, leadership, and service to others will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. In remembrance of Mark's life, the family suggests donations to Breakthrough T1D, care of Kash's Warriors, in lieu of flowers.

Always looked up to my big cousin Mark. His charm was in his ability to be both tough as nails and sweet as honey. His sense of humor was sneaky. He was definitely the strong silent type, like our grandpa, with a fierce protective loyalty to his family..especially his girls, Jennifer & Stephanie, his pride & joys. Condolences to them and Julie, Michael, Scott & Michelle. I’ll always smile, remembering his smirk. Mark, without a doubt did leave his mark on earth. Rest in peace Cousin. xoKristi

Mark led a life that was filled with adventures. He would start telling a story, and then change the subject, leaving you wondering if the story was true, but somehow you just knew that it was. Even when he was not feeling well, he would always make you feel glad that you called, and when you were Mark's friend it meant he trusted you and you were his friend for life. These last few years were hard, but somehow you just felt that Mark would power through it. He is missed so much already, from the impish grin he had when he changed a subject and left you hanging to the long talks he shared on so many topics that he knew inside and out. Rest in peace, my friend. You truly earned it.
