Obituary

MADISON - Diane Marie Marty, age 65, of Madison, Wis., passed away on Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, near her home after a courageous battle with both physical and mental health. She was born on May 29, 1959, in Darlington, Wis., the daughter of Colleen (Hanson) Mosley and Paul Mosley. Diane grew up in rural Darlington, Wis., and graduated from Beloit High School.

Diane married the love of her life, Roger Marty, on Aug. 20, 2005, in Madison, Wis.

For 35 years she was employed with UW Milwaukee with Urban Studies and UW Madison Extension office as an administrative assistant which she enjoyed. Diane often worked with engineers and facilitated conferences of higher education.

Diane was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Madison, and her Christianity was the most important part of her life. She loved to dance, especially polka to the Keith Zweifel Band, which she did for decades. Diane also was an avid pianist and vocal artist.  Her joy of music with her piano always filled her home.  Diane enjoyed church activities, ballroom dancing with her husband, any kind of music, dress up events, cooking, entertaining, mission trips with her husband, friends, charity, family, and especially her grandchildren.

Diane was the voice of the underrepresented. Racial injustice, inequality, women’s rights, equal rights, incarceration, and injustice.  She had a soft spot in her heart for the less fortunate.

Diane is survived by her husband, Roger of Madison, Wis.; brothers, Steven (Denise Williams) Mosley of Darlington and John Mosley of Madison; her two stepchildren, Eric Marty of St. Paul, Minn., and Denise (Bart) Jones; along with her two granddaughters, Joslyn and Jovie of Brooklyn Park, Minn; former husband, John Jackson; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents; twin sisters, Mary Jo and Marcia Jean, who passed in infancy; and aunts and uncles.

Diane will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 5502 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024. A luncheon will be held immediately following the celebration. Friends and family are strongly encouraged to bring their stories and memories of Diane to share with everyone. She shared so much joy and happiness with others - we want to hear those stories as we all remember her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be gifted to the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) and to assist aspiring musicians in the Madison area.   Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
