Judith Marie Swenson

MONONA - Judith M. Swenson, age 79, of Monona, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, at Heritage Monona. She was born on Nov. 28, 1944, in Madison, the daughter of Harry and Cyrene (Johnston) Briggs.

Judith graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1963. She was united in marriage to Lee Swenson on Jan. 4, 1964. Judith worked at Harlan Sprague Dawley for over 25 years prior to her retirement.

Judith had a passion for life's simple pleasures; her garden was a vibrant tapestry of colors, her home was always filled with the sweet aromas of her cooking and baking that she loved to share, and she also loved playing rounds of Euchre. Her love for animals shone brightly, with her cat snuggled at her side and her garden guests, the birds and squirrels, eagerly awaiting her daily feedings. She had a collection of knickknacks which would often become the center of amusing stories.

Judith and her husband shared a love for the simple life, with countless memories made on their serene camping adventures. Together, they raised two sons and enjoyed spending time with their family, especially their grandchildren.

Judith is survived by her sons, Lee (Victoria) Swenson Jr., and Chris (Tami) Swenson; grandchildren, Riley and Sydney Swenson, and Zachary and Mackenzie Swenson; sister, Harriet (John) Pedley; brother, Harry (Debbie) Briggs; brother-in-law, Darell Detloff; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; parents, Harry and Cyrene; and sister, Millie Detloff.

A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024.
