Obituary

MADISON - Brad “Buef” Zwergel was born on Nov. 18, 1969, and passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 9, 2024, at the age of 54, due to terminal cancer. Brad was the son of Christine Zwergel; brother to Melanie Zwergel; and uncle to Madeine Zwergel.

Buef was a drummer, percussionist, music arranger, recording engineer, electronic music composer and a brilliant humorist. Anyone who knew Buef, marveled at his uniqueness and creativity.

Buef was a marching member of the Madison Junior Scouts from 1982-1986. A member of the world-famous Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps in 1987, 1988, 1990 and 1991. In 1988 winning the Drum Corps International World Championships. Buef was a member of several bands including Cynergy 67, 01 Bullet Left and Technetium. He also worked with the Carolina Panthers Drumline, The Carolina Thunder in 2008-2009.

Buef wanted to express his heartfelt thanks to everyone that came to his Going Out in Style party on Aug. 18, 2024. He wanted to celebrate life and friendships instead of having a funeral and a wonderful gathering it was.

Buef’s family and friends would like to give a special recognition and deep gratitude for the compassionate devoted end of life care to Christopher and Diana Martingilio. This care allowed Buef true meaningful moments with loved ones and solid proof of the Scout’s credo, You'll Never Walk Alone.

Buef, You’ll Never Walk Alone

Deep sympathy to you, Chris, from myself and all VFW Auxiliary members. Brad was a quiet and always reliable and capable staff member at the VFW on Cottage Grove Rd. He regularly went above and beyond.

I'm the son of one of Brad's high school friends, Paul Ehrenberg. Due to extenuating circumstances he can't write this letter himself but I had a phone call with my Dad recently and he was talking about his fond memories with brad. I looked up his name and I saw he had passed away and he was shocked, my dad had been wondering how he was, because he remembers him as a very talented man. Just sending my dad's (and my own) love to the family
