Say Van

MADISON - Say Van, age 56, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, at St. Mary's Care Center. She was born on Feb. 3, 1968, in Battambang, Cambodia, the daughter of Chhin and Mourn Van. Say is a genocide survivor who migrated with her family at a young age to America for a better life.

Say married Yuon Loch, in Providence, Rhode Island and they have been married over 30 years. She enjoyed her role as a traditional homemaker and took pride in her cooking and sewing skills. She looked forward to watching Cambodian soap operas, and simply loved spending time with her grandchildren. Always willing to try new things, she was strong minded, goal oriented, independent, and had a great sense of humor. She was also an animal lover and a woman with a warm heart who was always thinking of others. She liked traditional Aspara dancing and was multi-lingual, allowing her to pass along parts of her culture to her children and grandchildren.

Say is survived by her husband, Yuon; son, Jimmy Loch; daughters, Amanda (Demetrius) Jackson and Ashley Loch; grandchildren, Noah and Amelia Jackson; father, Chhin Van; brother, Chhoub Van; sisters, Sopheap (John) Van and Sophear (Thee) Van; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mourn Kong Van; and sister, Yean Van.

Services will be held at the CAMBODIAN BUDDHIST SOCIETY OF WISCONSIN, 1848 County Road MM, Fitchburg, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, and at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 at Jackson St., Stoughton, from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., also on Thursday.
