Greg Johnson

COLUMBUS - Gregory Michael Johnson, age 66, of Columbus, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024. He was born on October 28, 1957, in Madison, the son of Robert and Alvina (Koster) Johnson.

Gregory graduated from Stoughton High School in 1976 and Madison Area Technical College in 1991.  He was united in marriage to Judy Hanson on August 19, 1989. Greg had an eclectic career, from over-the-road semi-driver to automotive mechanic, and finally, as a driver instructor for Diesel Driving School of Sun Prairie. He retired on December 1, 2022.

Greg loved his role as husband, father, and grandpa. He loved to debate with and share interests with his kids, teach his grandkids skills and life lessons, and was always telling stories. He had a wealth of trivia facts and could answer almost any question on any topic. He had a wonderful sense of humor and rarely complained (although he could be stubborn if he wanted to). For the last 19 months, Greg bravely fought lung cancer. Recently, he enjoyed his dream trips to Hawaii and a cruise to the Caribbean.

Greg followed many sports, including the Brewers, Badgers, and - most especially - the Green Bay Packers. He never gave up on his friends and family and always had a wealth of love and support to provide for them.

Greg is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Rory Johnson and Nick (Kelly) Johnson; daughter, Angela (Wendy) Hanson; grandchildren, Emily, Oliver, Jacob, Tyler, Harper, Tessa, Hayden and Hunter;  and sisters, Gail Beckwith, Gloria (John) Harris, Geneva (Sam) Braun and Glenda (Tim) Kojo. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; mother, Alvina; brothers, Gerald Johnson and Gary Johnson; granddaughter, Henley Elizabeth, brother-in-law, Donald Beckwith; and nephew, Chris Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. at Jackson St., Stoughton, at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, 2024. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
