Obituary
MONTICELLO - Neil David Dettwiler, age 77, of Monticello, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Monroe Hospital after a long struggle with health issues. He was born on July 10, 1947, in Monroe, the son of Ernest and Helen (Schmoldt) Dettwiler.
Neil served in the U.S. Army from May 25, 1966 to May 23, 1969. He married Susan Olson on March 21, 1980. He was a union painter and member of Painters Local 802 until his health caused him to retire. Neil enjoyed spending time at his cabin, fishing, hunting and spending time with all his dogs.
Neil is survived by the loves of his life, wife, Sue; son, Matthew (Tony Avoles), and his dogs, Bella and Sophie; sister, Joan Carlin; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Dettwiler, Thrina Dettwiler, Sandy (Mark) Fillner and Colleen Robinson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Helen; brothers, Gene Dettwiler, Nate Dettwiler and La Vern (Donna) Wickersham; and brother-in-law, Virg Carlin.
In keeping with Neil’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
