For many years Lee and Virginia owned and operated Sunnyside Grocery Store in Madison. Virginia was also employed by Prangees/Younkers for many years.

Virginia was a life-long active member of Burke Lutheran Church. She had the gift of hospitality making sure everyone felt welcome in her home and was well fed. She loved cooking, entertaining, dancing, traveling, playing euchre, and tending to her flower gardens. But most of all she loved spending time with family and friends.

Virginia is survived by her children, David (Patty) Steward, Susan (Mike) Breszee, Sandra Kershner and Dennis Steward; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews to whom she was their favorite, Aunt Ginny. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee; all of her siblings and their spouses; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank many of the staff at Oakwood Village and Heartland Hospice. Memorials may be made to Burke Lutheran Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

My mother Ferne Doll was best friends with Virginia since their youth. Even though Ferne moved across the country they continued to get together over the years. Our family visited them as kids and I remember Virginia had given us kids empty soap bottles to use as water squirt guns, and we had great fun chasing around the yard. They were all a beautiful and fun family and we always had a special time with them. I know she will be missed and I send my sincere condolences to David, Susan, Sandra, and Dennis. With love, Nancy (Doll)Schulte

Dear Stewart Family Our sincere sympathy for your loss. She will always be remembered as a sweet, kind and loving person. My fondest memories are going to Nora”s on Friday night and dancing the polka! Also the fun times at the cottage in Lodi and the delicious homemade food! Her legacy lives on in all of you! I had the opportunity to play in their Euchre club for a short time, they had all been together for years, and they let me in and made me feel welcome. They were great at being the hostess for the euchre club. Thank you for that! My deepest sympathy to the family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all! Bobbi Leen

It was always a wonderful time whenever my parents and I were visiting with Ginny and Lee! They were always so fun, happy, positive, uplifting, and interesting. Virginia was a very giving, caring, loyal, fun person. She was a strong woman. She was always supportive of my mom Ferne, her sisters Shirley and Joyce, and our whole family. Ginny clearly loved people! She had a quiet, yet strong, solid faith. And she lived out her faith in her words and actions. She was a person of character and heart. She brought joy to every situation and everyone in the group. David, Susan, Sandy, and Dennis, may you be comforted and blessed with the knowledge of your mother's beautiful impact and influence on this world! Love to you all, ~Nicole Galen (formerly Linda Doll)
