Obituary

OREGON, Wis. - Yvonne Tessmann, age 80, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at UW Hospital and Clinics. She was born on Nov. 22, 1943, in Devizes, Wiltshire, England, the daughter of Delmer and Phyllis Weber.

Yvonne regularly changed grade schools but attended Randolph High School for four years and graduated in 1962. She was united in marriage to Grant Tessmann on June 18, 1966, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Madison, Wis.

Shortly thereafter, they got their first cat and Yvonne went on to become a champion Persian cat breeder. She loved dogs and they had several, most notably their old English Sheep dog, Bussels. But breeding and dogs had to be given up with the onset of Multiple Sclerosis. After this they had one cat at a time, Julian, followed by Crumpet and now YumYum.

Yvonne was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was intelligent, caring and compassionate, and had a terrific sense of humor. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards, loved antiques and was gifted at refinishing furniture, cross-stitch and knitting.

Yvonne is survived by her husband, Grant; two sons, Todd (Lynn Richgels) Schultz (with whom she was reunited in 1984) and Derek (Shawn) Tessmann; daughter, Heather (Richard Hylton) Tessmann; eight grandchildren, Jenalea (Nate Hayner) Schultz, Chantelle (Ben) Schultz, Nina (Axl Roetter) Schultz, Kylie Richgels and Lacey (Daniel) Hodzic, Simeon Smith, and Ivy Tessmann and Erroll Tessmann; great-grandchildren, Vincent Hayner and Eden Schultz; brother, John (Angela) Edgar; and sister, Anna Craig. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Frances “Yvonne” (Robert) Reid.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted in Yvonne’s name to the Dane County Humane Society or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The family wishes to thank the staff of UW Hospital (B&W Center) ICU.

Grant, I was shocked when I read Yvonne‘s obituary. I’m so sorry, it must’ve been very sudden and yet I know she suffered for many years. I know that you were probably the principal caregiver for Yvonne and it will be difficult for you without her by your side. My deepest sympathies to you and your family.—- Gary Stebnitz.

Grant, I am so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed chatting with Yvonne when I called for you to plan a golf round. She did indeed have a great sense of humor, and I will miss those chats. -- Dennie Olson

She was friends with my mom and I when we had a cattery, and we bought Persian cats from her. She took in my mom's red tabby Persian when she was in and out of nursing homes, and then in hospice care at my home. She was so kind to bring the cat to my house for my mom to see and say goodbye to just a couple weeks before she passed on. I looked for her about 10 years ago and was not successful in my search. I wish I had been so I could tell her again how much I appreciated her kindness. Tami Dettinger

She was a very special lady, kind caring and always listened and made you feel better. She loved her family and always wanted to make life better for them. We had many good laughs over the years, she will be missed.
