Obituary
VERONA - James Robert Anderson, age 87, of Verona, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Beaver Dam Health Center. He was born on May 28, 1939, in Boise, Idaho, the son of Ira and Ruth (Eichenberger) Anderson.
James graduated from Boise High School in 1957. He attended Boise State University before earning both a Bachelor of Music degree and a master's degree in organ and voice from Westminster Choir College. His love of music began early in life, as his father taught him to read music before he could read words. Gifted and passionate, James learned to play a variety of instruments and was active in both theater and music during his youth.
Music remained at the center of James' life and career. He served as Minister of Music and Music Director for several churches in California, Wyoming and along the East Coast, sharing his faith and musical talents with countless congregations. Over the years, he enjoyed many memorable musical experiences, including performing on harpsichord with the Fine Arts Orchestra of Lynchburg, singing with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, and performing with the Pacific Chorale at the Hollywood Bowl in California. One of his most cherished experiences was singing under the direction of renowned conductor John Williams accompanied by a full orchestra. He was also ordained in Christian ministry as a preacher and enjoyed international travel with various choral groups.
Beyond music, James had a wide range of interests. In his younger years, he amassed an impressive collection of model trains and remained involved in model railroad clubs throughout his life. He was a devoted cat lover and found great joy in the companionship of his feline friends.
Above all, James treasured his family. Becoming a father was among his proudest accomplishments, and he found immense happiness in attending his children's and grandchildren's concerts, performances, games and special events. He delighted in sharing his musical knowledge with younger generations and always made time for family board games, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.
James is survived by his daughters, Julie (Jason) Lane and Betsie Joy Anderson; sons, James "Chris" Anderson and John Anderson; grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Genesis and Sadie; great-grandson, Thomas Jay; brother, Theodore Anderson; nieces and nephews, Judith, Kimberly, Anthony, Heather, Duane and Kristina; great-nephews, Morgan and Zach; and great-niece, Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William Anderson.
