Fred gave me two years of metal education that is the foundation of what I know as a metalsmith. From the basics to forging, to raising, to pewter, advice about graduate school, and advice during my graduate studies in Indiana. I owe him so much! I will miss him. Cindy Eid www.cynthiaeid.com

I was hired by Fred to teach Metals after Eleanor Moty retired, and I taught with Fred during the last few years of his teaching career at UW-Madison. He was an amazing metalsmith, a kind and generous person, and a valued mentor. Generations of students adored him and owe their careers to him. He embraced me with open arms from the moment I arrived on campus and allowed me the freedom to spread my wings. I will always be grateful to him for being the type of senior colleague that one hopes for. His was a life worth celebrating. that.

I will ever be grateful for the very fine skills he shared with me in the studio. I am a better smith directly because of Fred Fenster. A great teacher and maker, his influence will live on in his students. I will continue to share his teachings through my studio practice.
