Obituary
MADISON - Albert J. “Al” Miller, age 82, of Madison, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, June 21, 2024. He was born on Sept. 25, 1941, in Baraboo, the son of Joseph and Marcella (Wilcox) Miller.
Al graduated from Spring Green High School in 1960. He united in marriage to LaVon Eck on Jan. 11, 1964, and they were inseparable for over 60 years.
Al worked tirelessly as a UPS delivery driver for 35 years, before retiring in 1998. He was a skilled woodworker and auto mechanic, and a former parishioner and volunteer at St. Dennis Catholic Church on Madison’s East Side. Al loved the outdoors, particularly biking, hiking and downhill skiing in the mountain west. Family was the center of Al’s life and he cherished family time together, especially with his grandchildren.
Al is survived by his wife of 60 years, LaVon; daughter, Lisa (Robert) Parry; son, Rich (Holly Cogswell) Miller; three grandchildren, Grace Parry, Sean Parry and Mason Miller; sister, Mary (Don) Fleming; brother, Chester (Vicki) Miller; sisters-in-law, Sally Miller and Karen Miller; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marcella; and three brothers, James Miller, Edward Miller and Michael Miller.
A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024. A time of remembrance will begin at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted on Al's name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. You can also plant flowers in your yard in his memory.
