Obituary

MOUNT HOREB / MIDDLETON - Linda Lee (Garrott) Hanson, age 81, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Monday morning, June 10, 2024. Linda’s deep love for her family, her passion for living life to the fullest, and her sheer will, and determination were to be admired. Linda was a “giver” in every sense of the word. She cherished her life-long friendships and made many more over the years, even in the last year of her life.

Born Feb. 22, 1943, Linda grew up in the Madison area and graduated from West High School in 1961. Linda married her high school sweetheart, Craig Hanson, who she met at “The Shoppes” for ice cream when they both were supposed to be in class. Linda was an avid golfer, playing in tournaments across the city and state - often playing with her father, Bill.

Together, Craig and Linda, built their family, living in Middleton, Wis., not moving until all four kids graduated high school. Linda never missed a swim meet, a baseball game, a soccer game, or any event that involved her children. She could always be found at a football or hockey game cheering on her beloved Badgers. Evening card games, fondue, progressive dinner parties, couples bridge and travel groups forged life-long friendships lasting over 60 years.

Long summer family vacations in the Wisconsin North Woods nurtured a life-long passion for lake activities and cabin life in all their children who now carry on the tradition at their own lake homes - always with a room for “nana and papa.”

Linda’s artistic talents lead her to a long career with Felly’s Flowers as store manager in Middleton and then their largest store in Monona. She took pride in her work designing floral arrangements that delighted her customers. Linda selflessly cheered and coached many through life’s challenges. She gave her time to the Middleton Parks Commission, Oregon Correctional Institute, the Ronald McDonald House and the Red Hats Society.

Linda and Craig chose Mount Horeb to build their dream house and settled on 15 acres on which to host and celebrate their large and growing family. Their house was always filled with laughter and light until the very end. After raising their family, Linda with her husband, Craig, traveled to over 34 different countries, truly appreciating the beauty of our world.

Linda will be missed by everyone who knew her, her laughter, sense of humor and her energy. She was the very best mother, wife, sister, and friend.

Linda is survived by her three children, Vicki (Steve) Villacrez, Bryan Hanson (Kim Lewis) and Tracy (Ed) Kneubuehl; six grandchildren, Kayla (Andrew) Brooks, Erin Villacrez (Tyler Cory), Tyler Geiwitz, Garrott (Cheryl) Villacrez, Lauren Hanson, Jenna Hanson, Brendan Clark and Aleissia Clark; three great-grandchildren, Piper, River and Georgia; sister, Tricia (Al) Hanson; and brother, Robert (Jane) Garrott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Craig Hanson; son, Larry Hanson; parents, Bill and Ruth Garrott; brothers, Grover and Tom Garrott; and sister, Barbara (Garrott) Leslie.

The family would like to sincerely thank her many caregivers who gave her love and companionship and aide, especially Kim O’Connell.  Donations may be made to Agrace HospiceCare and Mount Horeb Senior Center. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Dear Vicki, Tracy, Erin, Garrot and all the Hanson Family, Before there was sun in the sky and stars in the night, before there was earth under our feet, and air to breath, water to drink, and fire to keep us warm, there was the love of all things. Mothers come from there, and then they return. Linda was a great mother, wife, sister, and friend. May her spirit rest back into the love of all things and may those who descend from her know her love is now a part of them. Where it will continue to grow like the roots, branches, and leaves of the great tree of your beautiful family. With great respect, honor and with my deepest sympathy. Love Nino
