Obituary
MIDDLETON - Linus "Trigger" Acker, age 91, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024. He was born Sept. 12,1932, to Henry and Veronica (Hellenbrand) Acker. Linus grew up on his family farm, a farm that had been in his family for three generations. He took pride in this and being a graduate of Middleton High School's class of 1950. After graduating, Linus went to work for Automatic Temperature, retiring after 39 years of dedicated service. Soon after retirement, Linus went to work at Orchids By The Ackers.
Linus met his Irish sweetheart, Theresa Coghlan and they married July 16, 1955, settling in Middleton. They bought their home on Maywood Avenue where Linus continued to live until February 2024. Linus and Theresa were blessed with three sons and 52 years of marriage, until Theresa's death on July 27, 2007. Linus enjoyed the simple things in life, attending family dinners, gardening with Stan, riding shot gun for a Sunday drive, enjoying a Friday night fish fry, and of course a cold one. He was an avid Badgers, Brewers and Packers fan. Most of all, he loved being the biggest fan for any sporting event or activity that involved his sons or grandchildren. Linus was a lifetime member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Middleton. Over the years he served on various commissions, committees and ushered until the young age of 85. His life was centered around his faith and his beloved family and friends.
Linus is survived by his two sons, Pat (Kathy) Acker of Black Earth and Chris (Ellen) Acker of Cross Plains; grandchildren, Kaila (Rob), Dustin (Carleen), Zachary (Tammy) and Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren, Everly, Harper, Keegan and Brooks; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa; son, Daniel; his parents Henry and Veronica; in-laws, William and Ada (Hunter) Coghlan; sister, Esther; and brothers, Edwin (Apollonia), Walter (Magdalene), Paul (Lucille); and Henry (Dolores) Acker.
The family wishes to extend our deepest appreciation to the Maywood Avenue neighbors, for their support of Dad, to Stan Skolaski, for his never-ending support and friendship, and to those who invited him for a meal or cookout and a good time. The family also wishes to thank All Saints Senior Living community, for the warm welcome extended to Dad in February and Monsignors Dan Ganshert and Gerard Healy, for their many visits and prayers, and to thank Cara Mackenzie and all of the amazing Agrace HospiceCare staff for their compassionate care of Dad in his final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Avenue, Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday.
We had a wonderful Grandpa! One who never grew old. His smile was made of sunshine and his heart was solid gold.
