Karen and my mother, Kathy Venzke, were best friends. They were both very creative and some years ago, used to go to the Iowa City Farmers Marker and sell their crafts together. While they did that, me and my sisters played with her kids and we spent many happy summers that way. She and my mom stayed very close and she was always a presence in my life. I will miss her sense of humor and creativity greatly. She was a wonderful person.

Karen was a sweet woman. I had the privilege of being her hair stylist for the last few years. We spent time together every 5 weeks and she was always a sweet spot in my day. I loved listening to her stories, and she told the best jokes. I will miss her, she was one of a kind.
