Obituary
Madison - Steven Michael Knapp, age 74, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at St. Clare SSM Hospice House in Baraboo. He was born on July 6, 1949, in Madison, Wis., the son of Delbert and Mary (Finnegan) Knapp.
Steve grew up attending Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School and graduated from LaFollette High School in 1967. He married Romona Disch in July of 1968 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Madison, and they later had their three children. Steve also had a second marriage to Ronelle Wedig. He spent his career working for Oscar Mayer, retiring in 1999.
He served as a coach for his sons' little league baseball teams for many years. An avid camper, he was involved in Boy Scouts as an adult volunteer. He loved to take his kids camping during the summer months. Steve also enjoyed horse racing and was a lucky better. He enjoyed golfing and baseball and was a supporter of several major league baseball teams over the years.
Steve is survived by his sons, Gary Knapp and James Knapp; daughter, Monica (Tom) Kirkland; grandchildren, Tyler Knapp, Tara Knapp, Miya Kirkland, and Brett Kirkland; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Aaron, Isabella, and Chloe. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his half-brother, Donald Wagner.
A memorial gathering will be held at Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens at a later date.
