Obituary

CROSS PLAINS - Laura Lucille “Lucy” Hamilton passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born on Aug. 10, 1935, to Martha and August Leinonen in Trout Creek, Mich.

Lucy graduated from Ontonagon High School in 1953 where she was salutatorian of her class. She went to work in White Pine for two years then moved to Chicago with a friend. She worked for United States Gypsum Company where she met Robert Hamilton. They married on Jan. 17, 1959, moved to Decatur, Ill. and had three children.

In 1962 they moved to Madison, Wis. They bought the Mid View Motel in Middleton in 1964, which they owned and operated for several years. After the sale of the motel, mom went to work downtown Madison for a law firm. In 1984, Bob and Lucy moved to West Palm Beach, Fla., where she worked for Norton Gallery of Art until she was 75 years old.

After the passing of her husband, Bob, in 2017, she moved to Cross Plains, Wis. to be near her daughter and grandchildren.

Mom loved to play bridge, card games, golf and bowling. She was an avid Jeopardy fan and if the Golf Channel wasn’t on, it was a bad day. She enjoyed seeing her granddaughters get married and have children.

Lucy is survived by her children, Kathy (Larry) Esser and William (Brad Glendenning) Hamilton, along with granddaughters, Michelle (Josh) Zimmerman, Natalie (Steve Statz) Esser and Melanie (Patrick) Annen. She is further survived by four great-grandchildren. Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Hamilton; daughter, Marguerite (Margie) Hamilton; her parents; and two brothers.

Interment will be at a later date in Trout Creek, Mich.

The family would like to thank Milestone Senior Living, Interim Hospice and Erin who took such good care of mom. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
