FITCHBURG - Louis Edward Schmidt, age 91, of Fitchburg, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born in Madison on Dec. 29, 1932, the son of Richard and Elmira (Hermann) Schmidt.
Louis served in the U.S. Army. He married Janice LaFrance on June 6, 1960, in Madison.
He worked in maintenance for MG&E. Louis loved landscaping, always ensuring his yard was beautiful. He was an avid racecar fan and enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races. He also loved going to Florida with his wife in the winter.
Louis is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Tom) Gregg; sister, Charlotte Nelson; and brother, William (Bonnie) Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janice; and brothers, Bud, Harvey, Robert, and Fred Schmidt.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park.
