He was born on Sept. 13, 1930, the youngest of six children to Vito and Maria (Mamola) Musachia and grew up in the Greenbush neighborhood of Madison. He was deeply proud of his Sicilian Albanian heritage and continued in his father’s footsteps as a longtime supporter of the Italian Workmen’s Club. He maintained close friendships with his “Bush” friends for over 90 years.
Mario graduated from West High School in 1948, where he was an all-star baseball player. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and toured stateside, playing baseball with various Air Force Base teams from Texas to Alabama. He worked for Rowley and Schlimgen for over 40 years, starting as a truck driver and rising through the ranks until he retired as a sales executive.
Mario was a devoted family man, especially enamored of his two beautiful granddaughters, Olivia and Adriana. Mario loved all sports and took up golf following the end of his baseball career, playing through the rest of his life. He adored his loyal canine and feline companions and often had multiples of both. Mario also supported his community through his volunteer work for Madison School & Community Recreation.
Mario will be missed by his daughter, Mary (Tim Haub) Musachia; son, John (Jamel Bean) Musachia; beloved granddaughters, Olivia and Adriana Musachia; and dear friends, Peter Shulla and George Fabian. Mario was a proud uncle and always wished he could have shared more time with his nieces and nephews; Steve and Lita (Randall), Guy, Greg, and Charisse (Hagen), and Jerrilyn, Daniel, and Thomas (Musachia). He also had a special connection with his sister-in-law, Marilyn and his four nieces, Kathy, Elizabeth, Martha, and Mary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vito and Maria; brothers, Theodore Musachia and Tom (nee Dominic Musachia) Randall; and sister, Frances Hagen; as well as two sisters, Dorothy and Maria, who died in childhood before Mario was born.
A celebration of Mario’s life will be held at ITALIAN WORKMEN’S CLUB, 914 Regent St., Madison, Wis., from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024.
