Troy A. Schoonover
October 05, 1962 - April 24, 2024
Obituary
BLUE MOUNDS - Troy Schoonover, 61, of Blue Mounds, Wis., died peacefully at home on April 24, 2024, after showing amazing strength following his colon cancer diagnosis in 2020.
Troy was born in Fond du Lac on Oct. 5, 1962, to Sandra Franson (nee Williams) and Allan Schoonover. He spent his childhood in North Dakota where he enjoyed playing sports and taking part in some daring outdoor adventures. He moved back to Wisconsin and graduated from Oregon High School and worked at Certco Inc., for 34 years before retiring in 2021.
Everyone who knew Troy knew how much he loved sports, fantasy football, fishing, sci-fi, and music by Rush. He could talk for days about any of those topics. Gerbs had many memorable fishing trips with his brother, Seth, and other fishing buddies and was an avid musky hunter with numerous trophy fish to his credit. He especially had good luck in the fall, sometimes referring to himself as Mr. November.
Troy and Heather (nee Steele) were married on June 26, 1993, and have two amazing daughters, Sierra and Mia. Even though his daughters didn’t share his love of sports, you could find him cheering them on at their numerous music and theater events.
In addition to his parents, wife and daughters, he is also survived by his stepmother, De Schoonover; siblings/step siblings, Seth (Laura) Schoonover, Hope Hefty, Cyd (Pat) Davidson, David (Amy) Franson, and Paul (Deb) Franson; as well as beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and dear friends.
Troy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jay and Clara Schoonover and Hank and Belva Williams; stepfather, Dale Franson; and stepbrothers, Steve Davidson and Peter Franson.
We will miss Troy every day and his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Special thanks to Dr. Dustin Deming and team from UW Carbone Cancer Center and to the Heartland Hospice team for providing care which allowed him to remain at home these last few weeks.
