Obituary

CAMBRIDGE- Jerry W. Sims, age 77, of Cambridge, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on Oct. 13, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Richard and Helen (Nicley) Sims.

Jerry graduated from Linden-McKinley High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Victoria (Kazee) Sims on April 16, 1971, Mount Liberty, Ohio.

Jerry attended Berkshire Christian College. He devoted his life to ministry and his true purpose was to preach and show people the Lord. Jerry served as pastor at Grace and Truth Bible Church and in 1990 authored, ‘A Walk Through the Wilderness;’ a history of the Israelite's forty years in the wilderness.  He also drove school bus for Rite-Way Leasing for 30 years, retiring in 2014.

Jerry was an avid reader. He will be fondly remembered for being very personable. He loved visiting with people and wanted to talk to everyone in the room, feeling disappointed if he missed someone.  In addition to preaching God’s word, Jerry was known for his constant joking around and his excellent sense of humor. He loved to make people feel happy and entertained.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Victoria; son, J.W. Sims; daughter-in-law, Julie Sims; granddaughter, Jordan Sims; grandson, Logan Sims; sister, Dianne Embleton; nieces, Sharon Gardner and Chrissy (Mark) Matthews; and extended family, Dawn Shaw, AJ Shaw and Andrew Shaw. I am so sorry to hear about Jerry passing. He was a great man. I worked with him for all those years at Rite-Way. He could always light up a room with his humor. I just talked to him in February when I sent him the picture of Destiny and her baby. I wish I had called him again. All my condolences to you Vicky and your family. To know him was to love him. We will be there in May. If you need anything please let us know. 🙏

Jerry was a wonderful man who made us happy. I learned More about the Bible and Jesus from Jerry than any other time in my life at the time we spent at Lakeview Christian Church.
