Obituary

MADISON - Betty L. Skaggs, age 89, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. She was born on Oct. 13, 1934, daughter of Mabel and Lee Sorensen.


Betty grew up in Oxford, Wis., with her sister, Lucille, and two brothers, Bob and Gary. She married Robert Skaggs on April 16, 1955. After working 34 years at the UW-Madison, she retired in 1996. Betty enjoyed bowling, puzzles, watching Brewers, Packers and Badgers, planting flowers/gardening and playing penny slots at various casinos.


Betty is survived by her three sons, Bob (Debi) Jr., Bruce (Christine Cimino) and Brent; daughter, Brenda (Brent) Hemstead; six grandchildren, Bob (Angie) Skaggs, Mathew (Melanie) Skaggs, Jake (Catherine) Kneifl, Kristy (John) Skaggs, Brandon (Kristina) Hemstead and Brooke (Zach) Ruot; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Sorensen; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 2017; her son, Benjamin, in 1957; sister, Lucille Eberlein; and brother Robert “Sornie” Sorensen.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
