Obituary

MADISON- Beverly A. "Bev" Cook, a beacon of unwavering strength and joy, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on Aug. 9, 1939, in Madison, Wis., Bev was the cherished daughter of the late Jacob S. and Anna S. Gerber. Her life was a testament to her spirited and passionate nature, and she was a loving presence in the lives of all who knew her.

Bev grew up in a bustling household and was a proud graduate of Stoughton High School. Her career was dedicated to serving the City of Madison in the Transportation division, where her resilience and positive attitude left a lasting impact on her colleagues and those she served. Bev's work ethic and commitment to her role were as steadfast as her devotion to her family and friends.

Bev's zest for life was evident in her numerous interests and hobbies. She had a green thumb and found solace in flower gardening, appreciating the simple beauty of nature. An avid trap shooter and hunter, Bev embraced the outdoors with vigor and enthusiasm, especially when golfing. Her musical talents were showcased in her younger years as she played the accordion, filling the room with melody and cheer.

One of Bev's greatest joys was spending time with her family. She was a familiar and encouraging presence at her grandchildren's sporting events, always ready to celebrate their achievements. Bev's love for games extended to spirited rounds of cards and board games, where she was both a fierce competitor and a gracious companion. Her pets, especially her beloved dogs, Teddy and Coco, were a source of comfort and companionship, reflecting her nurturing spirit.

Bev and her late husband, Luther, shared a love for adventure, often going on drives to explore the countryside and cherish the changing seasons. These moments of togetherness and discovery were among her most treasured memories.

Those who knew Bev will remember her for her unwavering positivity, even in the face of adversity. She was the embodiment of the phrase "smiles when she's sad," demonstrating a resilience that inspired everyone around her. Bev never gave up, no matter the challenge, and her ability to find joy in every situation was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Family was the cornerstone of Bev's life. She is survived by her loving children, Dale (Tamra) Carson, Leanne (Jim) Stoker, Linda (Terry) Baumgartner, and Stuart Cook. Bev's legacy continues through her adoring grandchildren, Kennan (Sara) Stoker, Ahna (John) Geier, Nicole (Rich) Scheunemann, Brian (Amber) Baumgartner, and Simon Baumgartner, as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Karsen, Wren, Taylie, Evelyn, Natalie, Lyrica and Rhilie, who brought immense joy and pride to her life. Bev was a sister to Gene (Beverly) Gerber and Mary Gerber, and a sister-in-law to Elaine Gerber. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Cook; her father, Jacob, her mother, Anna, and her brothers, John (Nancy) Gerber and Duane Gerber.

These two photos really sum her up for me. Always with food and fun. I remember as a child going to my Aunt Bev's house for Thanksgiving. OHHH the spread. There would be ham, turkey, rabbit, venison, pheasant. And that's not even mentioning all of the fixings and desserts. Always had a blast. They had a piranha that they would feed live goldfish to. That was so cool to watch as a kid. As I got older, I still loved visiting her. She was just so much fun and always had a smile. Her and Luther invited my family up to their cabin a few times. We had so much fun fishing and playing cards. I think I will miss her laugh the most. She had such a contagious laugh. You just couldn't help but laugh or at least smile. I love you Aunt Bev so much and I know my girls loved you to the moon and back as well. Rest in Peace. Kristine Rought, Katie, Kylie, & Kyra
