Obituary
MADISON - Joan Marie Nyenhuis, age 87, of Madison, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Oak Park Place. She was born on February 26, 1937, in Cedar Grove, the daughter of Leland and Jennie (Wieberdink) Meylink. She married William "Bill" Nyenhuis in Cedar Grove, WI, at First Reformed Church on August 8, 1959.
Joan graduated from UW-Oshkosh with a degree in education. She worked as a teacher in the Cedar Grove, Sheboygan and Madison school districts. Joan was well-loved by her students and everyone who knew her.
Joan was a member of Crossroads Christian Reformed Church. She loved playing golf, playing cards, cooking, and weekly Rummikub games with friends and family. She was very generous and always had a big smile.
Joan is survived by her husband, William; daughter, Jodi (Dale) VanEss; son, Scott (Barb) Nyenhuis; seven grandchildren, Benjamin (Brittany) Nyenhuis, Joel (Val) Nyenhuis, Aric (Beth) VanEss, Sarah (Alex) Leitmannstetter, Andrew Nyenhuis, Brandon VanEss and Delaney Nyenhuis; nine great-grandchildren; brother, John (Ruth) Meylink; sister, Karen Schreurs; brother and sisters-in-law, Francisca Nyenhuis, Ivan (Audrey) Nyenhuis, Joan Ruppel and Lenora Burhop; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Gregory William Nyenhuis and Jeffrey Scott Nyenhuis; brother and sister-in-law, Wes and Joan Meylink; and brothers-in-law, Myles Schreurs, Wayne Ruppel, Milton Burhop, Carl (Nelda) Nyenhuis and Gerald Nyenhuis.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025, with Pastor Larry Meyer presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
