Obituary

MADISON - Cora Ruth Warnke, age 31, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024, of natural causes at home with her parents. She was born on Feb. 8, 1993, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Bruce and Michele (Preuss) Warnke. Cora worked as a caretaker for Potter's Hand which she thoroughly enjoyed and was looking forward to returning to work to help the elderly. She enjoyed listening to music, watching movies, swimming, riding her bike, and playing with her cats.  She also played soccer, volleyball, was a Girl Scout, and a member of her church choir.  Cora had a love for water and went on many trips with her parents including Mexico, the Bahamas, Myrtle Beach, Walt Disney World, and many lakes in Wisconsin including Sunset Lake and Green Lake.  She loved babysitting, being around children, and children loved being around her. Cora was called “auntie” by the children of several of her best friends which gave her tremendous pride and joy.  One of her most joyful times was spent shopping, whether at Target in Madison or Michigan Avenue in Chicago.

Cora is survived by her parents; maternal grandmother, Shirley (Dan Casey) Lewicki; her aunts, Cindy (Tom) Downs, Nancy Stephenson, Lisa (Dan) Sondalle, and Jenny Lewicki; her uncles, Donald (Christine) Warnke and Jeff Lewicki; and her many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Donald and Valeria Warnke; her maternal great-grandparents, Ruth and Paul Preuss; uncle, Jerry (Joey) Preuss; and aunt, Mary Rineck.

Funeral Service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2024. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service on Sunday.  Interment will be private at Princeton City Cemetery.

I loved Cora the first time I met her. She had a great spirit and the energy around her was palpable. Intelligent and creative and warm. I am so sad but also feel glad that she is free from suffering. She was surrounded with love from wonderful parents and friends. RIP Dear Cora. Peace be with you.

Our hearts were broken when we heard the news of Cora's death. We have enjoyed her for years as a special friend. We will always remember her laughter and sweet smile. We know she is now in God's arms and free from all pain and suffering. He must have needed another sweet angel in his fold. He got a good one! We will miss her. Love, Bill and "Neci"

I'll always remember her as a little girl who I swore was the twin of Shirley Temple! Prayers for all her family and friends.

Dear Michele and Bruce, Words cannot express the depth of my sadness at your loss. Cora was such a bright light and a caring soul, despite all of the pain she suffered. She always asked about my kids, especially my Logan. I will always remember her beautiful smile and kind heart. Love to you both, Kristi Probelsky
