Obituary
SUN PRAIRIE - Glenda Ann Anderson, age 85, of Sun Prairie, formerly, Madison, Wis., passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born Jan. 18, 1939, in Leeds, Wis., the daughter of Glenn and Breta Lee.
Glenda grew up on the family farm helping her mother, Breta, care for her seven siblings. Glenda took pride in making certain her sisters and brother were dressed and ready for school. Some of her fondest memories were the games/antics she played with her siblings on the farm and the times she spent with her grandmother, Anna Waldref. She graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 1957.
Glenda was joined in marriage to Edgar “Jerry” Anderson on Aug. 22, 1959. They made their home in Madison, Wis., and raised four children. Glenda decided to return to school and she earned her Nursing degree from Madison College in 1975. She worked for many years at Jackson Clinic and UW Health retiring in 2004.
Glenda was very active in Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church for many years. She was a member of the choir, taught Sunday School, helped with the youth groups and even ran a 5K with another church member, she was very proud of that accomplishment. Glenda always made certain her children knew Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Glenda was an avid advocate for survivors of domestic abuse and earned a certificate for advocacy on their behalf. She volunteered for Domestic Abuse Intervention Services, formerly Advocates for Battered Women.
Glenda made a promise to herself that after retirement she would travel… And she did! She travelled all over the United States including Hawaii. Her world travels included Italy, Spain, China, Romania, Germany and Mexico. But her favorite trip was to Arizona with her sweetheart, Jim Kingsley.
In her free time Glenda loved to garden, go shopping, and visit antique stores with her sisters. Glenda also enjoyed finding little treasures at thrift stores and garage sales. Every year she looked forward to decorating and opening her home to celebrate Christmas with all her family; she made everyone feel welcome, but you better not forget to bring your talent to showcase at the Family Christmas Talent Show. Glenda’s greatest joy was to spend time with her siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never failed to support her children, they were always her priority and her love for them was shown in everything she did.
Glenda is survived by her daughters and son, Pamela Durden, Lisa Anderson, Michelle (Julie Visger) Shelhamer and Mark (Tina) Anderson; granddaughters, Jessica Durden and Catie Durden; grandsons, Peter Anderson, Alex Anderson, Brian Anderson and Alexander Martinez Anderson; great-grandchildren, Sean and Sam Wolf; sisters, Betty (Vince) Maly, Barbara Youngs and Lana (Bob) Nell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Johnny (Evelyn) Bell and Dennis Lee; sisters, Gloria Hauge and Sharon Lingard and infant sister, Georgia; and grandchildren, Aaron Anderson and Cassidy Keyes-Anderson.
Glenda’s children would like to thank the following care team, Dr. Dobie Giles and his nursing team; Dr. Micheal Kessler, Maira Luettinger, NP; Dr. Andrew Okas; Dr. Gerald Pankratz; Dr. Simone Glinberg, Dr. Brian Griffith, Dr. Steven Cattapan; and all the wonderful nursing staff in the Meriter ICU and Intermediate Care Unit.
