Obituary
DEERFIELD - David J. “Red” Slater, age 67, of Deerfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024, at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on Sept. 7, 1956, in Stoughton, Wis., the son of John and Doris (Rice) Slater.
Dave graduated from Stoughton High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and shortly afterwards was deployed to Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam, Dave began his career as an over the road truck driver. If it had four wheels, he could handle it.
Dave was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed target practice at the shooting range. Rides on his Harley motorcycle was another passion of his. Dave was always on a mission to find the next best Friday Night Fish Fry. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and cherished the moments with his grandchildren, with his beloved dog, Tucker, always by his side.
Dave is survived by his significant other, Becky Foss; sons, Brian (Megan) Slater and Kevin (Sara) Slater, their mother, Evon Slater; grandchildren, Madeline, Brayden and Jaxson Slater, McKenzee, Peyton and Ava Slater; bonus daughter, Ashley Brumley; bonus grandchildren, Madison, Liberty, Allania and Zoe and sister, Jane (Mike) Stobbe and nephew, Mike Stobbe, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Judy Neath.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 11a.m. until 4 p.m. at the STOUGHTON VFW POST NO. 328, 200 Veterans Road, Stoughton. A special thank you to the staff at the William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital for their loving care over the years.
