DEERFIELD - Gilbert Eugene “Gil” Lee, 72, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 25, 1952, in Port Angeles, Wash., to Frieda and John Lee. Gil attended Verona High School. He worked as bus driver for Madison Metro until his retirement in 2014.
Gil loved spending time at his trailer on the Wisconsin River where he was either fishing, hunting, or tinkering with something. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his two dogs, Abbie Mae and Gypsy, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, Badgers, and Milwaukee Bucks. He was a huge fan of Elvis and John Wayne.
Gil is survived by his wife of 33 years Gayle Hemberger-Lee; children, Heather Lee, Heidi Lee (Mitch), Gilbert Lee (Nikki) and Jacob Lee; a very special grandson, Collin Lee (Emily); and granddaughters Makyla and Morgan. He is also survived by his good friends Dave, Mike and Patrick, and many other friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Holly Lee (his “Bubbies”).
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. In memory of Gil please feel free to wear your Packers, Badgers, or Bucks attire to his service.

Thank you to Dr. Hegeman and the staff at the UW Carbone Cancer Center and to Agrace HospiceCare staff for their compassionate care to Gilbert. With a very special thank you to his nurse, Melissa.
