Marius G. Meland

SUN PRAIRIE / CHICAGO - Marius G. Meland, age 96, of Wood Dale, Ill., passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Elmhurst Hospital in Elmhurst, Ill. He was born on Feb. 4, 1928, in Madison, Wis., the son of Peter and Olive Meland.

Marius was raised in Sun Prairie, Wis., where he went to school and worked on the family farm.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1946 before completing high school.  Upon his return, he received his GED and moved to Chicago where he became an electrician for Northwestern Railroad. In 1950, he married Jean Hutchinson and they were together for 68 years.  

Marius is survived by his brothers, Naymen Meland and Peter (Marjorie) Meland; nephew, Donald Meland; nieces, Debra (Dave) DeSmidt, DeAnne (William) Blount and Marie Meland; great-nephews, James Meland and Maxwell Blount; great-niece, Sydney Blount; great-great- nephew, Cameron Meland; and great-great-niece, Carly Meland.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Meland; parents, Peter and Olive Meland; and brother, Norman Meland. 

A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024. A graveside service will follow at SPRING PRAIRIE LUTHERAN CEMETERY, N509 County Road C, De Forest, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
