MADISON - Raymond Thomas Doyle, of Madison, Wis., passed away peacefully, Friday, April 5, 2024, with his family at his side. He was born Aug. 6, 1943, in Cuba City, Wis., to Dr. Delos and Mary Agnes Doyle.
Ray graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in La Crosse in 1961. Ray was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, having served from 1961-1966 aboard the USS Mount McKinley as an E4 Radar Technician.
In 1967, he married Carole Doughty and together they welcomed three children. They divorced in 1973. After a whirlwind six-month engagement, he was united in marriage to Kim Peterson in 1982. They added two more children to their growing family.
Ray earned his Computer Science degree from Western Technical College and went on to have a successful career with the State of Wisconsin, retiring from the department of transportation in 2006. This allowed him to spend more time woodworking and he gained a new position of "Grandpy Nanny." We think this was his favorite, as he made sure to tell the parents the boys' likes and dislikes. His happy place was his piece of heaven at his cabin on Lake Camelot. He was an avid outdoorsman and he especially loved his fishing trips to Canada. Ray never missed an opportunity to tell his fish stories and show his “prized catch” photo, which he carried in his wallet. Ray also cherished his many adventures with his "Sister in crime" from trips to the casino, American Legion and a memorable trip on the Badger Honor Flight.
Ray is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kim; children, Micki, Joe and Bob Doyle, Shannon (Corey) Hill, and Jerry (Erica) Doyle; grandchildren, Tracker and Hunter Dunn, Levi, Max and Declan Doyle, and Gavin and Owen Hill; great-grandson, Tracker Dunn Jr.; and siblings, Patrick (Elaine) Doyle, Mary Klingelhofer, Ann (Dr. Loris) Betz, Michael (Colette) Doyle, Peggy (Al) Skalicky and Susan (Alan) Peterson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, his twin sister, Ruth Grimslid, James Doyle and Kathleen Doyle-Schueler; along with beloved brothers-in-law, Ken Larson, Keith Schueler and LaVern Grimslid; sister-in-law, Rosemary Doyle; nephews, Timothy Doyle and Erik Larson; and niece, Kelley Scheck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CHURCH, 651 N. Main St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, with Father David Wanish presiding. A luncheon will follow. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday. Family and friends who wish to view the Mass via LIVESTREAM may visit Ray’s obituary page at www.gundersonfh.com at the time of the Mass and click on “Watch Now” in the Webcast section.
We will miss his bright blue sparkling, dancing Irish eyes, charming personality and leprechaun mischievousness. Fair winds and following seas, Ray. Chelsea has your watch.
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields, And, until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand. -Irish Blessing
