Obituary

MADISON - Werner S. Schwiertz, age 90, of Madison, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born in Germany on July 28, 1933.


In 1961, Werner and his beloved wife, Vera (Zopf) Schwiertz, came to America and they were married for 66 years. He worked as a specialized machinist for Datex Ohmeda, now known as GE HealthCare, retiring after 35 years of service.


Werner will be missed by his wife, Vera; and daughter, Lisa Schwiertz. He was preceded in death by his son, Roy Steven Schwiertz; and many family members in Germany.


It was very important to Werner that he say goodbye to all the people he knew.

I am so sorry for your loss. Warner was a great man and full of stories. I was the crossing guard on Buckeye and Droster for over 6 years. Warner would stop and talk to me every day. Tell me all about his life and family. Once he brought his daughter on his walk, he loved her so much. I also would see him at Hochunk casino, he loved playing the slots but would always blame his wife for being there but i could tell he enjoyed himself. He was a kind and friendly man, he will truly be missed. Cheryl Francis
